Students with mobility impairments

The university is trying to reduce barriers to students with different forms and severity of mobility impairment in various ways. Barrier-free accessibility of buildings is provided, as well as personal assistance and individual adaptation of study conditions (see Adaptation of classes), including physical education (see Sports). In collaboration with the Students’ Office it is possible to be granted an individual study plan (see Study regulations). There are possibilities of accommodation in barrier-free rooms in dormitories and of taking meals at barrier-free canteens or cafeterias.

Please address all your queries and requests for personal assistance to the Physical Disabilities Section  (oph@teiresias.muni.cz). If you wish to have your examination adapted (see Adaptation of the entrance examinations), please inform the Students’ Office of the Teiresias Centre at least a week prior to the exam date

Accessibility of buildings

The barrier-free accessibility of the buildings of Masaryk University varies. Fully barrier-free buildings include the Faculty of Informatics, Faculty of Economics and Administration, Faculty of social Studies, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Education, the newly constructed buildings of the university campus where the Faculty of Medicine resides, the Faculty of Sports Studies, and parts of the Faculty of Science. At the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts most buildings are accessible, and construction is under way on the rest of the buildings.

If classes are placed only in inaccessible spaces, we arrange a move to barrier-free spaces with the faculty employees in charge. Please direct all your queries concerning accessibility of particular spaces to us.

Personal assistance

Personal assistance, carried out by trained assistants, is offered in cases of limited independent mobility or in cases of not fully accessible spaces at MU. All assistance in activities directly concerning studies is provided free of charge (transport from place of accommodation to school and back, journeys to the library or the cafeteria etc.).

In situations not directly involved with studies (assistance at the dormitory, leisure time activities etc.) we do not offer assistance, but we will help you in finding a suitable assistant, or information about organizations which offer assistance services.

AccomModation

In case you require barrier-free accommodation, please contact us directly (i.e. not via the faculty or the accommodation services). We will endeavour to find accommodation for you that is both suitably placed and barrier-free. Double rooms with furnishings and facilities suitable for wheelchair-bound students (possible to reach by car, flat area, at the periphery of the city, good accessibility via barrier-free public transport) are available at the Komárov Halls of Residence and Vinařská Dormitory (possible to reach by car, parking, close to the Faculty of Economics and Administration, steep terrain, public transport stop approx. 500 metres away).
