Main entrance examinations

Learning Potential Test

The Learning Potential Test (LPT) is the main entrance examination at Masaryk University. It is to be undertaken by the majority of applicants, except for those who apply for some of the Faculty of Medicine’s study fields or for the Faculty of Social Studies’ study fields. Entrance examination at the Faculty of Medicine

The entrance examination at the Faculty of Medicine is designed to test the applicant’s knowledge in the fields of physics, chemistry or biology (depending on which study field you apply for). To obtain details about the examination, see the website of the faculty, section For Applicants.

Entrance examination at the Faculty of Social Studies

Applicants for study at the Faculty of Social Studies undertake the National Comparative Exams by the Scio company, specifically the General Academic Prerequisites Test (basic form) and Social Sciences (Czech only). For more information see the National Comparative Exams section of this website.

Field-of-study entrance tests and practical examinations

Those who apply for study in some of the fields at the following faculties have to undertake, in addition to the main entrance examination, a test specific to their chosen field of study, or a practical exam. All of the information on these exams is at this moment only available in Czech.

  1. Faculty of Arts – information and sample questions (a list of study fields and their individual requirements);
  2. Faculty of Education – information and sample questions;
  3. Faculty of Science – sample questions (sample questions from field-of-study tests in geography, biology and the basics of chemistry);
  4. Faculty of Sports Studies – information and test samples including admission criteria (chapter 10 and requirements for applicants (chapter 11) with videos showing the practical examination in physical (chapter 11.2) and the field specific test in biology (chapter 11.3);
  5. Faculty of Economics and Administration – information (part 2) about the written language test required from applicants for the Studies in European Economy, Public Administration and Culture study field.

Remission of entrance examinations

Some of the MU faculties allow for admitting applicants without the necessity of taking the entrance examination required. The conditions are specific to each faculty:

  1. Faculty of Medicine – an applicant can be admitted based on excellent secondary school record, for details see Podmínky pro přijetí bez přijímací zkoušky do studijních oborů Všeobecné lékařství a Zubní lékařství (Czech only).
  2. Faculty of Sports Studies, Faculty of Education – the applicant successfully completed the previous year as a lifelong education student at the faculty, fulfils the conditions outlined in the document Conditions and criteria for admission to study at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University, article II. Other conditions for admission to study, paragraph 7.
  3. Faculty of Science – applicants can be admitted based on secondary school record, past successful participation in relevant competitions, participation in “středoškolská odborná činnost (SOČ)”, graduation examination results or having taken part in the ViBuCh educational course (Czech only). 
  4. Faculty of Informatics – the applicant was successful in taking the National Comparative Exams, i.e. was one of the best 30% in either General Academic Prerequisites Test or Mathematics.
  5. Faculty of Economics and Administration – the applicant was successful in taking the National Comparative Exams, specifically the General Academic Prerequisites Test (basic form), for details see the article Entrance Examination for Bachelor's degree study and part 1.
