Climbing wall for students with visual and hearing impairments

The course focuses mainly on practical and to a lesser extent theoretical mastering of basic skills in climbing on an artificial wall. Teaching includes several phases: orientation in the environment and theoretical and gradually practical acquisition of basic and more advanced knowledge in the field of sport climbing – familiarization with basic terms and commands used, working with climbing material (harnesses, rope, belay aids), rope-tying technique, actual climbing on the artificial wall and belaying with various techniques and finally bouldering.

Students develop their physical abilities, motor coordination and improve their climbing technique. They increase their confidence when moving on vertical and gradually overhanging terrain, but also gain more confidence in their climbing partner.

In addition to the instructor, expert assistants are also involved in the lessons, if necessary, to help with orientation in the area in the beginning and to help with the practical acquisition of skills on an individual basis.

The lessons take place regularly once a week in Brno-Maloměřice on the Klajda climbing wall or the Duro-Salewa climbing wall and in good weather on the outdoor climbing wall in Olympia in Brno-Modřice. In the past there were also lessons on the climbing wall Rajče.

Sports equipment (harnesses, carabiners, belay devices, ropes, bags with magnesium, all Singing Rock brand) is lent to students free of charge. Students only need to bring suitable climbing shoes or rent them for a fee at the climbing wall.

Methodological materials for climbing on artificial wall for the visually and hearing impaired (including translation into ČZJ) are available here (Czech only).
